Bird Sanctuary

The Feathered Friends Bird Sanctuary was established to create a facility, which provides rescue, adoption and sanctuary for native and exotic birds.

Unfortunately some people either underestimate or do not understand what it takes to care for a pet bird, resulting in miss treated birds, there are also occasions where birds need assistance that are out of control of their owners.

The Feathered Friends Bird Sanctuary’s aim is to assist birds in difficult situations such as:

· Owner illness or death
· Owner relocation (where they cannot take their bird with them)
· Lifestyle changes
· Lost and unclaimed
· Abuse or neglect
· Physical and behaviour problems

New arrivals are quarantined, assessed and given an avian health check before they come into contact with any other birds. We meticulously monitor the progress of the birds in our care and they are not placed with new owners until the birds are 100% ready. All new owners are carefully screened and receive ongoing support through a free consultation with our bird behaviourists along with a follow up check, as well as twelve months free membership to Feathered Friends.

For birds that are either not deemed suitable for adoption or where owners have specifically requested that the birds remain in our permanent professional care, we offer permanent residency at our sanctuary. Sanctuary birds will enjoy a fulfilled enriched life and receive the same high level of care as the birds available for adoption, however these birds are neither sold nor traded. Were appropriate, sanctuary birds with the previous owners consent, will have the possibility of being utilised in some of our educational shows and workshops which promote responsible ownership of birds.
